Accident Details on the Maimón Highway

The crash occurred while the presidential convoy was transiting through the Puerto Plata province. According to official reports, a security vehicle lost control, leading to an immediate response from local emergency services.

The accident left three people injured:

Two members of the Presidential Security Corps.

One civilian bystander.

All victims were promptly evacuated to a nearby medical facility. Authorities have since confirmed that the injured parties are in stable condition and are expected to make a full recovery.

President Abinader Safe via Aerial Transport

A critical clarification issued by the National Palace confirmed that President Luis Abinader was not present in the vehicle during the collision.

The President was traveling separately via helicopter to fulfill an official agenda in Puerto Plata. This planned aerial route ensured that the President arrived safely at his scheduled inaugurations and public events despite the ground-level incident.

National authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether the accident was caused by mechanical failure or specific road conditions on the Maimón-Puerto Plata stretch. This incident brings renewed attention to road safety protocols for official government convoys in the Dominican Republic.
