In a decisive operation against organized crime, the Temporary Anti-Gang Unit (UTAG) successfully repelled a violent assault in the Seguin neighborhood of Marigot this Monday, April 20, 2026. The confrontation resulted in several fatalities among the attackers and the recovery of military-grade weaponry.

Rapid Response to Criminal Incursion

The incident began early Monday when heavily armed individuals launched a coordinated attack on the civilian population in Seguin. Local residents reported intense gunfire, prompting an immediate tactical deployment by UTAG, an elite branch of the Haitian National Police (PNH).

Upon arrival, security forces engaged the gang members in a high-intensity exchange. The strategic intervention prevented the criminal group from seizing further territory within the commune of Marigot, a vital area in the South-East department.

Significant Seizure of High-Caliber Weapons

Following the skirmish, the PNH confirmed that several bandits were mortally wounded. Beyond the neutralizations, the operation yielded a significant blow to the gang’s logistics. Law enforcement officers recovered:

Assault Rifles: Multiple high-caliber firearms used in the assault.

Tactical Gear: Ammunition magazines and specialized equipment.

Communication Devices: Tools used by the group to coordinate their criminal activities.

Strengthening Public Safety in Southeast Haiti

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Haitian government to restore order in regions increasingly targeted by gang violence. The Southeast department, previously considered a relatively stable zone, has seen an uptick in UTAG patrols to discourage the expansion of Port-au-Prince-based criminal networks.

Authorities have maintained a heavy presence in Seguin to ensure the safety of displaced residents. The PNH has urged the local community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
