A violent massacre in the heights of Jacmel has left at least 13 people dead and several government buildings destroyed. The attack, which took place between the late hours of Monday, April 13, and the morning of Tuesday, April 14, 2026, targeted the community of Ségur (Segen), marking a significant escalation of insecurity in Haiti’s Southeast department.
Heavy Casualties in Ségur Incursion
Local sources confirm a grim human toll following the overnight raid. Among the deceased are three community brigadiers local residents serving in volunteer security roles and ten civilians.
The assault has terrorized the residents of Jacmel, a coastal city historically known as a cultural hub and, until recently, a relatively peaceful haven compared to the gang-ravaged capital of Port-au-Prince.
Police Sub-Station and Patrol Vehicles Torched
The armed group specifically targeted the local presence of the Haitian National Police (PNH). During the chaos:
The Ségur Police Sub-Station was set ablaze and completely destroyed.
Multiple police cruisers and law enforcement vehicles were torched in the streets.
The bandits retreated after the destruction, leaving the community without an immediate security presence.
Rising Insecurity in Haiti’s Southeast
This massacre in Segen highlights the worrying expansion of gang influence into the Southeast department. By targeting the police sub-precinct and killing community leaders, armed groups are systematically challenging state authority and local resistance.
While the PNH has not yet issued a formal report on the total number of injuries or arrests, residents report that the area remains tense. Local authorities are being urged to deploy reinforcements to prevent further incursions into Jacmel’s urban center.
