President Trump Slams Biden-Era TPS Policies Following Florida Hammer Attack

In a scathing post on Truth Social on the afternoon of Thursday, April 9, 2026, President Donald Trump intensified his rhetoric against the previous administration’s immigration record. The President specifically pointed to the case of Rolbert Joachim, a Haitian national recently arrested for a brutal hammer attack in Fort Myers, Florida, as a primary example of how the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program was allegedly misused by the Biden administration.  

The Rolbert Joachim Case and TPS Misuse

According to recent reports, Rolbert Joachim was originally detained and released in 2022. He was later granted Temporary Protected Status, a humanitarian program that President Trump argues has been transformed into a “loophole” for unvetted individuals.

The President asserted that such high-profile criminal cases provide sufficient legal grounds for federal judges to stop blocking the current administration’s hardline immigration policies. He argued that the safety of American citizens must take precedence over the “twilight legal statuses” granted to foreign nationals from high-risk regions.

Shifting the Judicial Tide

President Trump emphasized that his administration is moving to rapidly overturn the current status quo through decisive executive action and the appointment of conservative judges committed to “restoring the rule of law.”  

Key pillars of this strategy include

Terminating TPS Designations: Ending protections for countries like Haiti and Somalia, arguing that the “temporary” nature of these programs has been ignored for decades.

Ending Catch-and-Release: Reaffirming the “Zero Releases” policy at the southern border, which the DHS recently announced has been maintained for 11 consecutive months.  

Mass Deportation Strategy: Utilizing expanded expedited removal powers to target those with expired statuses or criminal records.
